Rane Moore, clarinet

Clarinetist Rane Moore is acclaimed for her insightful and compelling interpretations across a wide spectrum of repertoire, from the classical canon to cutting-edge contemporary works to jazz. Known for her artistry, versatility, and deep commitment to community, she is the co-Artistic Director of Winsor Music, a beloved Boston-area chamber music series and community outreach organization.

An active performer and collaborator, Moore serves as principal clarinetist of both the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and the Boston Landmarks Orchestra. She is a member of the award-winning wind quintet The City of Tomorrow, Boston’s new music sinfonietta Sound Icon, and the adventurous bass clarinet collective Improbable Beasts. She is also a founding member of the internationally renowned Talea Ensemble, which regularly premieres new compositions around the world.

Moore is a frequent guest with the Boston Ballet Orchestra, International Contemporary Ensemble, Emmanuel Music, A Far Cry, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Ludovico Ensemble and NOW Ensemble. She has also appeared with the Bang on a Can All-Stars, New York New Music, Wet Ink Ensemble, Present Music, LoadBang, Alarm Will Sound and many others.

She has performed and recorded with legendary saxophonist and MacArthur fellow Steve Coleman, cuban pianist/composer David Virelles, and jazz super-star Chris Potter.

Her recent performances span a wide range of international and U.S. festivals and concert series, including Carnegie Hall Presents, the Tanglewood Music Festival, New York Philharmonic Artist’s Spotlight Series, Lincoln Center Festival, Boston’s Celebrity Series, Library of Congress, Newport Jazz Festival, Wien Modern, Warsaw Autumn, Pharos New Music Festival (Cyprus) , ECLAT (Stuttgart), Darmstadt, Festival Musica (Stuttgart), Ojai Music Festival, Time of Music (Finland), Saalfelden Jazz Festival, Jazz à la Villette (Paris), Sacrum Profanum (Krakow), Contempuls (Prague), The Village Vanguard, Time Spans, June in Buffalo, Electric Earth Concerts, Rockport Music, Kingston Chamber Music Festival, Town Hall Concerts Seattle, Trinity Wall Street and many others.

A dedicated educator, Moore is on the faculty at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Longy School of Music of Bard College, and Tufts University.

Moore’s large catalog of recorded work appears on Tzadik, Pi, Wergo, Kairos, and ECM, among others. Her performances have been described by critics as “enthralling,” “phenomenal,” and “a tour de force.”
